Bodywork Company Dance Studios was founded in 1981 by Theresa and Patrick Kerr, who were leading professionals in the world of dance and music. The school grew from a series of classes taught in and around Cambridge as well as a professional touring company, Read More the Bodywork Dance Company. Theresa was also teaching jazz for major performing arts colleges in London and Patrick was touring with the jazz company.

1985 – The present building on Glisson Road was acquired, a former furniture warehouse that was converted into four beautiful dance studios.

1986 – Seeing a need to prepare students, especially beginners, for full time vocational training, the team created the foundation course. It was a success and still runs today.

1990 – Again seeing the need for a full, more demanding, full-time programme, we added in a three year Diploma course in Dance and Musical Theatre.

2001 – The Diploma course is validated by Trinity College, London, to offer the Level 6 Diploma.

2003 – Bodywork became part of the Government Dance and Drama Awards (DaDAs) scheme allowing students to obtain funding towards their tuition fees. Bodywork is also accredited by the EFA and CDET.

2009 – Bodywork began to offer the Trinity Grade 8 Qualification in Musical Theatre for the Foundation course.

2015 – Bodywork launch their new BTEC Level 3 qualification in Performing Arts. Read Less

Course & Program

Qualification Level: Foundation

The Foundation Course is a one year, intensive course offering a Trinity qualification in Musical Theatre (Grade 8).

Our Foundation Course is one of the oldest and most established in the country, and is a pathway for less experienced students to further their vocational training.

Emphasis is placed on the study of classical ballet and jazz techniques from the beginning, with contemporary and tap as additional dance subjects. These are studied alongside singing, acting and musical theatre, which are supported by integrated professional studies. The students work with a core team of teachers who closely monitor and guide them throughout their training. There are also plenty of opportunities for students to put their skills in to practice with regular internal and external performances.

Our flagship, three year Diploma in Professional Dance and Musical Theatre is for 16 years old+ students who have the drive and aptitude for a career in the performing arts.

Specifically designed to meet the demands of today’s entertainment industry, we produce confident, articulate and multi-skilled performers; true ‘triple threats’. Students qualify with a Level 6 NVQ, validated by Trinity College, London.

Students are rigorously assessed throughout their studies and also take part in many performances, covering a range of different styles.

Qualification Level: BTEC Level 3

odywork Company offer a BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Performing Arts. The BTEC is run through the Foundation course (2 days a week) and comprises of 6 units which include jazz, musical theatre and group performance. Units are assessed through performance work, class working and controlled assessments. This course is run via a partnership with the College of West Anglia.

BTEC students attend the same classes as other Foundation students, but you will be assessed against BTEC criteria for certain performances and written assignments throughout the year. The qualification is the equivalent to one A level and awards UCAS points on completion, giving students access to progression routes that might include University/Higher Education.

Students wishing to apply for this course should have a minimum of 4 GCSE’s, grades A-C (Maths and English are highly desirable). As with other courses, students will be expected to audition and places will be subject to an offer from the school.

Should you successfully audition for BTEC, you are likely to be eligible for approximately 16 hours of funding towards your existing Foundation tuition fees. Further details are available on application.
